CV58Z +QT – Gear steel for highly stressed components

CV58Z +QT is a chromium-molybdenum alloyed gear steel supplied in the quenched and tempered condition. It has been specifically developed for mechanical components subjected to high loads, combining high strength with excellent toughness and wear resistance.

This material is ideally suited for the manufacture of spur and bevel gears, worm gears, cams, rollers, pistons, shafts, as well as other machine components exposed to high static and dynamic stresses. CV58Z +QT is used wherever reliability, long service life and operational safety are essential.

In the quenched and tempered condition, CV58Z +QT offers high tensile and bending strength while maintaining good impact toughness, even at elevated hardness levels. Its fine-grained microstructure ensures uniform stress distribution and significantly reduces the risk of cracking or pitting. In addition, its good elastic properties make the material highly resistant to alternating loads.

Another key advantage of CV58Z +QT is its excellent suitability for induction surface hardening. This process enables high surface hardness while retaining a tough core—an ideal combination for gear teeth and wear-intensive contact surfaces. Despite its high hardness, the material maintains very good resistance to impact and fatigue loading.

CV58Z +QT therefore represents a modern gear steel that combines mechanical performance, wear resistance and cost efficiency, making it a reliable solution for demanding applications in mechanical and industrial engineering.
